Aside from the fact that I had to drive an hour in a torrential downpour this morning, I’ve gotta say, my Valentine’s Day gift is rain in L.A. It’s pretty relaxing and I simply just love a drizzly (and windy!) day.
In addition to my new brakes, the other thing that helped me make it through my stormy little ride is new music! Bag Raiders teamed up with The Kite String Tangle to bring you the infectiously catchy “Lightning,” which is the debut single off their album Horizons, coming out later this year.
While the vibe outside may keep you indoors this holiday, the playlist below will have you feeling otherwise, with additional dance-worthy tracks by Cassian, R3HAB, Icona Pop, Peking Duk, Alison Wonderland and a handful of other upbeat artists.
Whether you’re celebrating V-Day with a significant other or only with Ben & Jerry’s, at least you’ve got a slew of new songs to keep you occupied tonight, and all through the three-day weekend!
I’m still on a musical high from Friday night’s Chris Brown concert at Hollywood Palladium. But even if you didn’t have a chance to see adorable baby Royalty hit the stage with her dad at the end of the show, you can still get in the Breezy spirit by checking out his new album (named after his little one), which dropped on Friday.
I personally think the already-released radio tracks from this album are his best of the latest options, but I’ve included his song “Anyway,” featuring Tayla Parx as part of this week’s New Music Monday.
Also in the mix this week are Bag Raiders, J.Cole, Death Team, The Toxic Avenger, Great Good Fine OK, Coyote Kisses, Diiv and Nora en Pure, among many others.
I must point out that up until this week, I was unfamiliar with Retro Culture and P’ARIS, but I’m totally in love with their songs “Cold” and “Focus” (respectively).

This may very well be my favorite New Music Monday! Maybe it’s something about being in the thick of summer, but there’s so much good stuff in the mix lately.
Bag Raiders will have you ready for a dance party with “Waterfalls,” No Doubt‘s Stephen Bradley‘s electro-soul jam “Feel the Music” will have you craving a pina colada poolside in the sun, and Paul Wall brings his signature Houston hip-hop sound with “Swangin in the Rain.”
I’ve recently gotten into Canadian producer Tep No, who I listed on an NMM playlist last month. He has another lovely little jam, “Under Rage.” I also recently found Jahkoy, who has me listening to “Still in Love” on repeat. And can we discuss Skylar Spence? He totally stole my hopeful DJ alias (Skye Spence) right from underneath me. But (semi) jokes aside, he has a really fun ’80s dance sound, so check out “Affairs.” And Nervo and Kylie Minogue‘s “The Other Boys” is every bit of dance-pop bliss that you’d expect.
Seriously, all 17 songs on the playlist – which also includes Anna Lunoe, Cosmo’s Midnight, Mighty Mouse and Luna – are worth hearing. Enjoy!
