The trap queens of Los Angeles hit up DTLA last weekend!

Fetty Wap—who hit it big in 2014 for rapping about his favorite type of lady—made his way through the City of Angels on Feb. 2 as part of his For My Fans (FMF) tour. The “Trap Queen” performer chose the historic Belasco Theater as his venue, where he gave his fans an intimate performance.

Attendees were greeted with “Fetty Wap”-branded merch as they filed into the theater’s cast stone walls. The concert took place amid a backdrop of Spanish Renaissance, moorish and gothic details that line the Belasco’s walls. The concert was opened by a handful of both male and female acts from RGF Productions’ lineup.

Fetty, who released his latest album For My Fans 3: The Final Chapter on Jan. 18, concludes his tour on Feb. 18 at The Ritz in North Carolina.

Elohim & Gryffin Bring Dance Party Vibes to Packed Crowd at El Rey Theatre

May 10, 2016

Gryffin-el-rey-skyelyfe-2There wasn’t a stationery body in the building on Saturday night, as electronic artists Elohim and Gryffin respectively took the stage at L.A.’s El Rey Theatre to a jam-packed crowd.

Elohim – celebrating the upcoming May 20 release of her self-titled debut EP, along with the recent release of her new single “Sensations,” which I featured on yesterday’s New Music Monday playlist – brought not only her melodic, synth-pop sound, but hit the stage in her signature oversized white coat. The Israeli beauty played a live set of a handful of her catchy tracks, including “She Talks Too Much,” “Xanax” and “Bridge and the Wall,” with colorful videos as a backdrop. Show-goers (myself included) were loving every minute, as this was the perfect lead-up to Gryffin’s set, which went until midnight.

Gryffin had no problem keeping the dance party going, closing out the evening with his high-energy, melodic remixes of a slew of popular songs, including “Desire” and “King” by Years & Years, “Youth” by Troye Sivan, “The Middle,” by DJ Snake and “Roses” by The Chainsmokers. As part of his Coming Home tour, the DJ actively went back and forth between the drums, the electric guitar and other instruments during his set to give the head-bobbing crowd a captivating performance!

PHOTOS: Synth-Pop Trio LANY Gets Biola University Pumped During School’s Eddy Outdoor Concert Experience

September 29, 2015

LANY_skyelyfe_3With the weather in Los Angeles still blistering hot, L.A.-based band LANY (an abbreviation of Los Angeles and New York) kept things cool when they jumped on stage with charisma Thursday night at Biola University, as part of the school’s twice-a-semester free outdoor concert experience called Eddy.

With quite a few singles and an EP out, according to their Twitter account, they’ll now be off to a “house by the ocean” to write new material.LANY_skyelyfe_1

Showcasing their signature ’80s synth-pop sound, the show definitely had a fun, jump-up-and-dance vibe. Lead singer Paul Klein put his heart and soul into the whole night. His energy was contagious during performances of “ILYSB” and “4EVER!”

lany_skyelyfe_2The trio’s tunes are catchy, but they still have raw and honest lyrics. It’s crazy to think the band, who is currently touring with Halsey, said they’ve only been performing live since February – It’s pretty hard to tell!

PHOTOS: Jason Derulo, Fifth Harmony & More Hit Center Stage for Pandora’s Summer Crush Experience

August 18, 2015

It’s already almost the end of summer, but musical acts – including Jason Derulo and Fifth Harmony – kept the heat turned up with on-fire performances over the weekend at Pandora‘s Summer Crush event.

The experience, which took place at L.A. Live in downtown L.A., also featured Who Is Fancy, Rachel Platten, Tori Kelly – and a closing DJ set by Steve Aoki.

In addition, Chevron was on hand with water stands and branded bottles for guests to stay hydrated. And after filming a short (and somewhat laughable) mini-music video at a L’Oreal booth (I think it’s safe to say my “dance” moves didn’t quite match up with those of Derulo’s), I walked away with mascara and lip color.  Other sponsors on hand with custom activation booths included ASICS, Acuvue, Dell, Mentos and Starbucks.

Robert Delong can pretty much do it all, and that is something I learned last night at the kick-off to the free Lexus Pop-Up Concert Series Powered by Pandora. Although this was my first time seeing him live, this most definitely will not be the last.

The 29-year-old had Hollywood’s LURE nightclub packed with his signature face-painted fans. Before posing inside Lexus’s latest vehicle (which was on display mid-club), guests took in some of Delong’s well-known material, including “Global Concepts,” but he also debuted some new music, which he said will officially be released in September.

PHOTOS: Swedish Electropop Singer Tove Styrke Takes Over the Troubadour!

America has found its latest Swedish sensation!

Following in the footsteps of Avicii, Robyn, Icona Pop, Miike Snow, Lykke Li – and the list goes on and on – Tove Styrke (not to be confused with Tove Lo, who is also from Sweden), is making a name for herself in the states.

Her career took off in Sweden all the way back in 2009, when she was a contestant on its version of American Idol. And now at only 22 years old, she’s proving she can make it as a worldwide star.

The electropop singer, who I included in this week’s New Music Monday, made an energetic debut at West Hollywood’s Troubadour last night, and she did not disappoint. Performing a handful of songs, including “Borderline,” “Brag” and “Even If I’m Loud, It Doesn’t Mean I’m Talking to You,” there was not a single body in the venue that wasn’t bouncing away to her infectious sound.

Luckily, I had fellow Tove Styrke fan Natalie Kanooni on hand to capture some of the action in photos. Enjoy the shots, and check out one of the adorable singer’s singles “Ego” below!:
