May Flowers—and Music! 21 New Tracks by Olivia O’Brien, A-Trak, Goldroom and More

May 1, 2019

It’s officially May—which means Coachella is a thing of the past, people are slowly slipping into their swimsuits and your workout classes are filling up faster than ever.

While not quite yet summer, May marks the peak of Spring, when people are showing a little more skin and embracing the time change. That said, everyone needs just the right playlist to help them get into the spirit, and we’ve got just that.

A nice departure from the more somber songs of months past, May’s playlist is an upbeat transition into sunnier seasons. Kicking things off is “Just a Boy,” the breakout track from Olivia O’Brien‘s debut album, Was It Even Real?. She describes the bop to Paper as “one of the most fun and empowering songs I have ever made,” and that makes perfect sense, seeing as it’s a big F-U to guys who have screwed her over, but the melody just makes us want to dance. Summer anthem, anyone? We’ve spotted it!

Following are some upbeat electronic tracks by A-Trak, Goldroom, Eden xo, Lipless, LUXXURY and more. If these don’t scream springtime frolics, then I just don’t know what does.

Scroll through the playlist below of 21 new songs you need to listen to this month!

Tep No, Banks, Goldroom, Hailee Steinfeld & 23 More Artists: New Music Monday

July 18, 2016

tep-no-best-crew-skyelyfeLast week was a biggie for pop music: Britney Spears and Katy Perry both released their first fresh single in years. But to my dismay, I’m not particularly in awe of either tune.

So, instead, I am focusing on some new stuff that I actually dig. I mean, if we’re going on the pop route, Hailee Steinfeld‘s cutesy, Zedd-assisted “Starving” isn’t too shabby.

In general, this week’s New Music Monday has a solid crop of mellow electro and pop, so sink your teeth in, folks.

From Tep No, Banks and Goldroom, to The Naked and Famous, Transviolet and Salt Ashes, I’ve got a whopping 27 songs to start your week off right!

Coachella 2016: This 52-Song Playlist Is Your Guide to Must-See Festival Performers!

April 12, 2016

CoachellaImageWe all know the Empire Polo Fields are a destination we can rely upon yearly to bring music aficionados performances from their favorite artists – big and small.

2016 is no exception, as Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival kicks off its first of two weekends in Indio, CA, on Friday, April 15 with Calvin Harris as a headliner, along with Guns N’ Roses and LCD Soundsystem – who are both coming together (separately) for reunion performances.

My excitement particularly lies in a few of the other highly touted acts (Flume, Miike Snow, The 1975), a handful of my standard under-the-radar go-tos (Goldroom, Tensnake, Miami Horror, Rhye) and a couple of on-the-risers (Zella Day, SOPHIE).

But festival goodness isn’t limited to just the artists listed above. Click the playlist below for 52 songs by acts skyelyfe suggests lending an ear to at the annual event! (And if you’re feeling especially nostalgic for last year’s dance party in the desert, check out my Coachella 2015 playlist.)

Be sure to check back next week, as I will be hitting the hottest parties in the heat this weekend and giving you the lowdown on everything you need to know about what you may have missed!

In Recovery Mode from Memorial Day Weekend Festivities? Relax with These 13 New Tracks!

May 26, 2015

ASTR-Activate-Me-SkyelyfeWhether you went to Lightning In a Bottle festival or simply spent the weekend BBQing with friends, chances are you’re a little worn out after the weekend that honors those who have died fighting for our country. And hey, I don’t blame you. Hitting up Rhonda‘s #RHONDESIA disco party at the Mondrian in West Hollywood could not have been a better way to enjoy my Sunday, but it definitely took a lot out of me.

So, what better way to decompress after a wild holiday weekend than with some new music to sort through on the day back to work?

Luckily, two of my absolute favorite acts Goldroom and ASTR each have some new material, while Troye Sivan makes a little cameo on Zedd‘s new album with “Papercut” and Birdee‘s “B-Love” takes me back to the vibe of this weekend’s dance party.

Check out the playlist of 13 new songs below, which also include songs by Rico Love, Tame Impala and Kraak & Smaak :

Goldroom & Zella Day Help Lincoln Motor Launch Their Black Label Program with Chic Soiree in the Hollywood Hills

November 19, 2014

I am typically in no mood to get dolled up for an event on a Monday night, but when I heard Goldroom was spinning and Zella Day was performing at Lincoln Motor‘s Black Label launch party co-hosted by Conde Nast, how could I resist?

Well, it was totally worth it. Not only was the music throughout the night obviously on point, but the classy crowd of slightly older folks than I’m used to seeing at these shindigs, along with the chic, but not overly ostentatious Hollywood Hills home where the event took place, just created a calming aura I thoroughly enjoyed being in the midst of.

Upon arriving at the event check-in, guests hopped in Lincoln SUV shuttles regularly going back and forth between the initial spot and the actual residence of the party. When I hopped out of my vehicle, Goldroom was spinning his hit “Fifteen,” and I knew the night was off to a good start.

Before I get to the rest of the fete, let me give a quick rundown of what exactly we were celebrating here.

“The Black Label program will be available on the MKC crossover and the MKZ sedan for $5,995 on top of the purchase price,” Autoblog explains of the luxury motor company’s new plan. “It includes custom design themes – with colors and materials only available through Black Label – plus free routine service and car washes for four years or 50,000 miles. It will be offered through dealerships in California, Michigan, Texas, New York, New Jersey and Florida.”

When I entered the party, there was tray pass after tray pass of everything from Parmesan-topped risotto, to mac-n-cheese topped with short-rib. The small bites – provided by Along Came Mary catering – just kept on coming. The kitchen table was filled was plates of various cheeses, crackers, nuts, chocolate, you name it. Good thing I came hungry! The event had two bars featuring chardonnay and a specialty gin cocktail.

It was refreshing not to see too many familiar faces and just being able to roam around the party, taking in the beautiful view and checking out the lavish bedrooms upstairs. Meanwhile, massage therapist Paul Metra of the Fairmont Miramar Hotel‘s Exhale spa was walking around with towels and lotion and giving hand massages to guests.

When Goldroom took a DJ break, Zella Day took on a high-energy, several-song performance with her band on a stage, which was raised only slightly above the pool (I was nervous just watching!).

As much as I was enjoying myself, as 11p.m. neared, I had to remind myself it was indeed a Monday and it was time to hop in a Lincoln and head on home.

RAC! Empire of the Sun! Goldroom! Ghost Beach! Here’s a Playlist to Honor This Past Weekend’s TBD Fest

October 2, 2014

This past weekend’s TBD Fest in Sacramento was one 2014 music event I was so sad to miss. I’ve had my sights set on this since it was officially announced at the beginning of the summer. From RACEmpire of the Sun and Goldroom, to Teen Daze, Ghost Beach, Keys N Krates and many, many more, I seriously cannot imagine a better lineup. I’m super bummed that I couldn’t make it, but either way, I still gave this extravaganza its much deserved recognition by putting a 30-song playlist together so that I could feel like I was there in spirit and share the talents of such great artists with my readers.

Bid Adieu to Summer with 22 Fresh Songs to Take You Into Fall

September 17, 2014

My favorite part of summer is knowing that it’s the closest time of year to my favorite season fall. That said, I know how many people cherish the months of June – Sept, so I’ve decided to give them something to leave those precious months behind with: A playlist of 22 awesome new songs to take everyone into the new season.

Goldroom once again fails to disappoint with his dreamy new track “Till Sunrise,” featuring Mammals. Another favorite, The Knocks – who collaborated with Mat Zo – also released a new song in August, “Get Down 2 Get Up.” Reminiscent of early ’00s disco house, this song brings me back to my college days. And going off of college days, ATB (a fond favorite during the end of high school thru undergrad) has a new easy-on-the-ear single “Raging Bull” with Boss and Swan. And Basement Jaxx (another oldie-but-goodie) released “Never Say Never.” The rest of the list includes everything from some of my current favorites – Grum, ASTR, Betty WhoTensnake and Kate Boy – to music from recently discovered acts Mansions on the Moon, Purple Disco Machine and  Solar Heist.

Check out the list of 22 new songs below:
